Meals on Wheels Wichita County’s mission is to serve the Wichita County area by meeting nutritional requirements while providing complementary services and connections to those in need.

Meals on Wheels Wichita County, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has and continues to serve the Wichita County area for more than 58 years! Our mission is to provide meals that meet nutritional requirements while providing complementary services and connections to those in need.

The name Meals on Wheels Wichita County derives from our endeavor to provide delicious and wholesome meals to all through our six programs in the community: Home Delivered Meals (MOW), The Red Door, The Green Door, Kids Programs, Case Management Program and AniMEALS.

Donation Impact

Every donation helps older adult neighbors stay longer in their own homes. In addition to every meal, we provide a daily wellness check to make sure our older adults are safe.

How much does a meal cost?

  • 1 week (7 days) of meals = $49

  • 2 weeks (14 days) of meals = $98

  • 1 month (31 days) of meals = $217

  • 1 full year (365) of meals = $2,555

  • 1965

    The Church of The Good Shepherd provided a building behind its place of worship for seniors of Wichita Falls to meet.

  • 1967

    The seniors and community leaders, who founded Senior Citizens Services of North Texas, acquired the Temple of Israel Synagogue located directly across the street, which became the new Red Door Senior Center.

  • 2009

    The Red Door moved to its current location next door to the Synagogue in the former Social Security Administration building at the corner of Burnett.

  • 2011

    Senior Citizens Services of North Texas changed its name to simply, The Kitchen.

  • 2017

    The Kitchen received the Torch Award for Ethics by the Better Business Bureau, in the Non-Profit Category.

  • 2022

    On September 1, 2022, The Kitchen rebranded to Meals on Wheels Wichita County to signify it encompasses more than just the city limits.

Addye Clements

In the late 1960s, Addye Clements prepared meals for seniors as they gathered at the Red Door for various events. It came to her attention that some of the original members of the Red Door's development were unable to attend. In response, she and some family members began to prepare meals and deliver them to the homebound older adults. As time progressed, she received assistance from other individuals within the community, and her work became the development of what is now the Meals on Wheels program.
